Lake County,  Florida is taking part in an important change in the way homes are built throughout Florida and our country. Florida, along with Lake County, has adopted the building standards set forth in the Florida Building Code - Energy Conservation, Sixth Edition (2017). Florida's initiative with this program will cause homes to be built tighter, more energy efficient and with less air infiltration.

As of July 1st, 2017 all newly built residential homes in Florida must have a Blower Door Test to measure the building's air leakage rates. Residential homes in Broward County must have less than seven changes of air per hour. This means that the homes we build will need to have low levels of leakage and be highly efficient.

​

The U.S. Department of Energy has published a guide to help builders achieve the low levels of air leakage their buildings must obtain. By utilizing the suggestions in The Air Leakage Guide and using it as a resource for understanding air leakage requirements, your buildings will become more energy efficient, safe, and comfortable.

When homes are built according to the guidelines in the Florida Energy Code, we are better prepared for the future. Energy use in Lake County has a fundamental impact on peoples lives and economic well-being. Homes that are built with energy consumption in mind are built more efficiently than their predecessors. Lake County requires homes to be built following stringent air leakage standards that, together with communities across the country, will affect the well-being of our nation.
